A group of mutants too disfigured to live on the surface, they live underground hoping to be left alone by normal humans. After their leader, Calisto decided she needed a man to help her rule her people. She chose Cyclops and kidnapped him and Jean.
The X-Men pursued and Storm challenged Calisto to a duel for the leadership of The Morlocks. Storm victory allowed Cyclops and Jean to freely leave. She placed Calisto in command until she returned.
