Episode #14 - The Origin Of Iceman
Written By: Donald F. Glut
Music Composed By: John Douglas
Guest Starring: Stanley Jones as Professor X
It's hard to dislike S & AF. Even when it's bad--and sometimes it is, its tongue is so firmly placed in cheek that you have to forgive it.
A lot of "Origin of Iceman" is not good. Videoman can singlehandedly ruin any episode he appears in, Jameson get shoehorned in for no reason and the Pac-Man attack on Spidey (you'll have to see it to understand) is ludicrous.
But at moments, it is hysterical.
One example: after Angelica and Bobby do their classic, insta-clothes change, we see Peter running from the bushes half-changed.
"One of these days I'm going to make them teach me that trick," Spidey says, pulling his mask down.
Another example: when Angelica is inexplicably losing her powers (I won't explain why. The reason is pretty silly, even for S & AF), she encourages herself with rhymed couplet.
"Firestar, Firestar, give it all you got/C'mon girl, get hot."
Moments like this are camp perfection, worth the stupidity that is Videoman or this show's version of J. Jonah Jameson.
So while this episode is not good, it is still entertaining, and worth one viewing.
Oh yeah, naming this episode "Origin of Iceman" is false advertising. The origin occurs in one scene and takes two or three minutes. The episode should be called "Videoman Attacks Again... the Creative Staff Apologizes."
