Review:

Now this is a very interesting if somewhat flawed episode to end the series on!

Right away there are some very obvious points that need addressing, such as S.H.I.E.L.D. appearing, but not Nick Fury, and the series' ultimate villain turning out to be a simple rouge agent (with a completely ridiculous moniker) rather than a super-powered adversary. Those points alone indicate how much more this episode could have been, and apparently the original story as developed by Michael Reaves was indeed different. Unfortunately, no one else has any idea what was in that original script.

Having said all that, there are still some nice things to savor in this final story. Getting any background info on any of the Spider-Friends is always a bonus, and it's very interesting and welcome to discover about Icemanís sister. Lightwave herself was a very engaging original character who was never used outside of this episode. Her brainwashing and turning against her brother serve as a reminder that this episode is actually slightly darker and deeper than most of the third season; a real credit to writer-producer Dennis Marks.

Fans of the 1990s Spider-Man: The Animated Series will be sure to find Neil Ross' voice as the disguised Buzz Mason very familiar, as it's essentially the exact same voice he later used for none other than the Green Goblin!
