Arsenal -The plot synopsis of “Contest of Champions” as described by Johnny Storm: a superhero/supervillain intergalactic Olympics, the Fantastic Four v. Ronan the Accuser, Annihilus, Super Skrull and Impossible Man.
Want to know if you’ll like “Contest of Champions?” Here’s a simple litmus test: Does the thought of Annihilus and Johnny Storm in a spelling bee make you laugh or roll your eyes?
If you said “laugh,” then this episode is for you. If you picked the other option, then you can probably skip this one.
In this episode, Reed Richards and Impossible Man play charades. Ben Grimm and Super Skrull race on scooters. It’s all as silly as it sounds, but it’s funny. So if you want funny, this is the one. If you want epic, starcrossed superheroics… well, this ain’t got it. (The same could probably be said for the series.)
There’s also a solid plotline about Ronan the Accuser’s inferiority complex. He is one of the better rounded villains on this show. He takes himself so seriously, yet the Four hardly remember his name. It’s an interesting dynamic.
